Agnes Caroline Streech Fund

Mrs. Streech was a remarkable woman who made an impact on all the people whose lives she touched. This scholarship honors remarkable students who have made a difference in their community, who like Agnes Streech, will no doubt go on to make their mark upon the world.

This scholarship is for a full-time continuing student with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better.

Alpha Educational Assistance Award

This scholarship is for a woman who has one or more children at the Fullerton College Child-Care Center. The recipient must be enrolled in at least 9 units, completed 24 units at the College and maintained a minimum 2.8 GPA. She must show financial need and be a U.S. citizen. Recommendations by the Child Care Center staff are welcome.

Art & Jane Dickenson/Osher Scholarship

The recipient must a continuing student (not graduating or transferring), having completed at least 24 units with a 2.5 GPA and must currently be enrolled in 12 units or more. B. Geraldine Miller Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student  who is returning after a break in his or her college education. Financial need is a consideration. The student will be enrolled in a transfer program and disbursement will be after a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. has been achieved. The recipient will be chosen by the Foundation Scholarship Committee after grades have been submitted to the Foundation.

This scholarship is to be awarded to a freshmen that has completed at least 24 units at the end of the current semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Recipients should also be returning to Fullerton College in the fall as full-time students. An instructor or counselor may recommend candidates to the Foundation Office.

Charles Helms Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need who has a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. and registered with at least 6 units. The recipient will be chosen by the Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Claire McCarthy / Osher Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of Claire McCarthy who died of heart failure at a very early age. Recipients are continuing students majoring in a medical field and must be receiving a Board of Governor's Fee Waiver and completed at least 24 units, and must be currently taking 12 units or more, and have a total GPA of 2.5 or higher. The donor's family assists in the selection of the recipients.

This scholarship is for one or more students with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and must be currently enrolled in 12 or more units. The award amount will vary with economic need. Dr. Carol Mattson Scholarship

This scholarship is for a returning student after being away from their education for at least a year after high school, is married and/or has children, or over age 24, and has a commendation from faculty or employer. The student must currently be taking a minimum of 6 units with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 with 60 units completed towards their degree and plans to be graduating. Financial need will not be considered.

Dr. Jo Ann Cherami Brannock Scholarship

 

Dr. Jo Ann Brannock was initially a student at Fullerton College and later became a psychology professor teaching for over 30 years at her alumni, Fullerton College. In addition, she taught at California State University, Fullerton and Chapman University for a total of ten years. The dynamics of teaching students and witnessing them going on to higher education is a major pride in her professional life for over 40 years. Initially Dr. Brannock was a chemical engineering student and would like to dedicate this scholarship to a science, technology, engineering or mathematics major (STEM scholars), who is transferring in the fall to a four-year college, a Full-Time (12 units or more), and has a grade point average of at least 3.0. Financial need will be considered.

Dr. Sherrie Emoto Mathematics Scholarship

Sherrie Emoto attended Fullerton College as a mathematics major, where she was awarded the following departmental awards--the Wilber and Ellen Selfridge Memorial Mathematics Scholarship, the Foreign Language Book Award in French, the Foreign Language Book Award in Spanish, and the Bank of America Community College Award in Foreign Languages.  She was selected as a Woman of Distinction in 1976 for Foreign Languages and in 1977 for Mathematics.  That year  she graduated with a 4.0 cumulative GPA , transferred to CSU Fullerton, and graduated summa cum laude two years later.  She is a life-member of Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Society.  As the only female student in her class of eleven at the Stanford University Ph.D. program in statistics, she went on to earn Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.  She completed post-doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin and continued on to work at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as a statistician.  Sherrie appreciates the excellent teaching and honors she received at Fullerton College and wants to return the generosity and kindness by offering this scholarship  through the Fullerton College Foundation where she is a Silver Donor.

The criteria for the Dr. Sherrie Emoto Mathematics Scholarship are as follows:  

1.        Be enrolled as a full-time student at Fullerton College at the time of application

2.       Be a declared mathematics major

3.       Have an overall GPA of 3.55

4.       Have a 3.75 GPA in math major classes

5.       Graduating at the end of the award year

6.       Transferring to a 4-year university in the fall

7.       Plan in a career as a college mathematics professor or a statistician

This scholarship can be awarded for one or more re-entry women who have completed 24 units with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Families for Equality Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded to a continuing full-time student who has completed at least 36 units towards an A.A., A.S., AA-T, or AS-T degree or a minimum of 36 units of lower division major requirements for any high-unit STEM major, such as science, engineering and math for students preparing to transfer from Fullerton College to a college or university and who has maintained at least a 2.0 GPA.  Financial need will also be evaluated.

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time female student, currently taking a minimum of 12 units, with a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. who has overcome obstacles to achieve her goals. John T. Walker and Joy A Wanden Study Abroad Scholarship

 

This memorial scholarship is given in the name of John T. Walker, a long-time (1963-2011) Fullerton College Language and History Professor. Dr. Walker founded the North Orange County Community College District’s Study Abroad Program in 1985-6. The scholarship is for a Full-Time student(s), either continuing or graduating, with at least a 3.0 G.P.A. and will be distributed at the start of their Study Abroad Program.

 

Special consideration will be given to student(s) who, 1) study the language of the destination country while abroad, and/or 2) demonstrate their willingness to engage in activities of significant historical and cultural interest (as approved by instructor) while in the destination country, and/or 3) reside in a homestay during the program.

 

Selection of the Recipient(s) will be made by at least one family member (Walker or Wanden), the Study Abroad Program Coordinator, and the NOCCCD instructors in the specific Program.

Judith Frank Scholarship for Returning Women

Multiple scholarships ranging from $100 to $1000 are given each year for students who are graduates of Fullerton College and plan to attend a four-year college/university. The amount given to each recipient is determined by GPA. While current year graduates will be given first consideration, students may apply for a one-time renewal scholarship after one year of receiving the scholarship. This scholarship is for a continuing, full-time student attending Fullerton College and majoring in the medical field. This scholarship is for all students who are or have participated in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and who embody the hallmarks of the organization: Scholarship, Leadership, Fellowship, and Service. This student must be taking a minimum of 6 units and have a G.P.A. of 3.25 or higher; and list all their Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) activities and describe in a short essay how being a member has helped in their growth and development of leadership skills and academic excellence.

Robert Von Esch was a long time Fullerton attorney and whose son Mark has served for many years as a member of the Fullerton College Foundation Board of Directors. Ruby June Stack Scholarship in Medical Science
   The Ruby June Stack Scholarship in Medical Science is to provide merit-based student aid to students graduating from Fullerton College who are pursuing degrees in one of the medical sciences at a four-year university.  "Medical Science" is defined as majors in Pre Nursing/Nursing, Pre Med, Bio Med or Bio Engineering. 
This scholarship shall be awarded based upon academic achievement and is to be independent of the financial status of the parents.  The recipient shall be a United States Citizen or a legal resident with application for U.S. citizenship in progress.  Gender and religion will not be a consideration in the award of this scholarship.  Mr. Gerry Stack will participate in the selection of the recipient.

Stanley Goering Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of beloved Fullerton College Chemistry professor Stanley Goering. Professor Goering taught at Fullerton College for thirty-three years.

Thelma Sevilla Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of the past Executive Director of the Foundation. The recipient must have a total GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Foundation Scholarship Committee will award it annually.

Vernor & Edith Rich Scholarship

The Vernor and Edith Rich Scholarship was established by Carol Dodson in loving memory of her parents. Vernor was a dentist and a community leader, and Edith was also active in community activities. Inspired by her parent’s love of learning, Carol attended Fullerton College before transferring and graduating from USC. Today, Carol serves as Foundation Vice President. Her parent’s scholarship honors an outstanding female student who has returned to college to obtain a degree in higher education.

This scholarship is for a Returning Woman, either continuing or graduating from Fullerton College. Students must be enrolled full-time (currently taking 12 units or more) with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Walter B. Chaffee Memorial Scholarship

As a graduate of Fullerton College, Walter Chaffee went on to have a long and distinguished career in the practice of law. He also served as the Fullerton City Attorney for four years and was appointed to serve as a judge for North Orange County Municipal Court for two years before returning to private practice.  The Walter B. Chaffee Memorial Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who show promise of success.

This scholarship is for one or more students. Awards are given based on financial need and to a student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Selection of the recipient will be according to the Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Wanda A. Hunter Memorial Scholarship

This award is for a full-time student (currently taking 12 units or more) with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The student should be studying business administration, or a business related field. The scholarship is in honor of Wanda A. Hunter, who was a secretary at Fullerton College for twenty years.

William & Florence Mohr Patton Scholarship

Recipients should be of a sophomore standing at Fullerton College or be graduating in June and transferring to upper division studies at a four-year college/university. The student may be pursuing any major, but must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be goal oriented and show promise of success in and after college. Any instructor or counselor may recommend recipients to the Foundation office.

Recipients should be receiving a Board of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOG) and completed at least 24 units or be graduating in June and transferring to upper division studies at a four-year college/university. The student may be pursuing any major, but must currently taking 12 units or more and have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be goal oriented and show promise of success in and after college.  Any instructor or counselor may recommend recipients to the Foundation office.

The William Stafford Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student who represents good character, shows concern for the community and radiates kindness and benevolence towards others. The student must have completed at least 24 units at Fullerton College with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

This scholarship is an un-restricted scholarship for two or more graduates of Fullerton College who will transfer to a four-year college or university.  Faculty and counselors are invited to recommend recipients on the basis of superior past performance and outstanding promise.

Joe W. Johnson/Osher Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of Joe W. Johnson who was a long-time president of the Foundation Board of Directors.  The recipient must be receiving a Board of Governor's Fee Waiver and is a continuing student having completed at least 24 units with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and must be currently taking 12 units or more. The Foundation Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.
